Busan University of Foreign Studies Student Dormitory  by Kim Soomin
A dormitory is often a college or university building containing living quarters for students. Our school also provides a dormitory for both domestic and international students. Students can stay in a warm and safe environment during the semester, and have independent experiences and lives apart from their parents for the first time. Thus, our student dormitory is always trying hard to offer 24 hour security and some medical care services to students.
First of all, our student dormitory which is building C is located on campus. It can accommodate about 1320 students every semester: 862 female and 454 male students. Its bedrooms are designed for two students each and basically the lodging qualification is divided by lot unless you and your friend apply online. For students’ pleasant lives and safety, however, there are some rules that we must obey such as no smoking and drinking in the entire dormitory, no entering the opposite sex building, and no electric heating appliances. In addition, we also have a curfew - on Monday, the door closes from 24:00(12A.M.) to 04:00(4A.M.), and on Tuesday to Sunday, from 01:00(1A.M.) to 04:00(4A.M.), a personal check with dormitory students’ council on every Monday at 24:00, and a cleaning inspection day on the first Wednesday of every month. If you don’t follow the rules, miss the curfew and personal check, or are selected as worst room - (meaning messy room), you get minus 3 points as a penalty or are forced to leave.

Second of all, students can use the lounge, resting room, studying rooms, automatic package storage, and a copy machine on the 1st floor of the building. Students are able to meet their friends and eat delivery-food in the lounge and resting room. There are also darts, piano, TV, microwaves that students can use. There is one study room in the male building and one in the female building. Both are open 24 hours. The automatic package storage and a copy machine are not free. You need to pay the charge of KRW 200 per hour and KRW 100~200 per a paper.

Lastly, we have a cafeteria(canteen), convenience store, gym, and laundry room on the 1st floor of the basement. If you get into our dormitory, it is mandatory to buy meal tickets for a semester and there are three types. One is for one meal a day, another is one to two meals a day, and the other is three meals a day. Its opening time is a bit different on the weekdays and weekend. But it usually it is opened from 7:30am to 9:00am for breakfast, 11:30am to 1pm for lunch, 5pm to 6:40pm for dinner. The convenience store is 7-eleven. It is open from 8am to 10pm. The gym is located right next to convenience store. You can work out with some gym equipment from 6am to 11pm. There is only one thing to remember that there are many healthy-strong people. The laundry room is available all day. It is of course divided into two rooms for man and woman and it is not free. A fee is charged for using each washing machine, dryer, and iron.

The student dormitory should be a happy, convenient, and safe place for its students. Our BUFS dormitory was built only four years ago. Therefore, it is still very new, modern, and clean. Students can enjoy high quality dorm life and spend their university years meaningfully. The staff in our dormitory is always trying their best to maintain the dormitory well and help us instead of our parents. Thus, we only have to trust our staff, follow the rules, and have fun!

Dormitory Indoor by Jeong Somi

This picture was taken in my dormitory on March 21st of this year. It was snowing so much that school classes were cancelled. Snow is really precious in Korea so I loved the scenery of Geumjeong Mountain from my dormitory. I think this scene is the best point of our school which I want to boast about. Therefore, I chose this picture to introduce our school.

Dormitory Building

This picture is our school dormitory. This dormitory can accommodate about 1000 students. This building has ten floors. The one thing I want to tell is that it’s divided into three parts within the building.  One part is for female students and the opposite side is for male students. The Middle part is a lounge for students to take a break and eat delivery food.

Outside the building is colored with a light chroma brown colors. And it seems like a number 3 when we see this building from the top of the hill. Our dormitory has many comforts. Fitness center, restaurants, laundry room, convenience store and study room. I've used all these facilities and it's very useful and pleasant. I assure everyone that our dormitory is the best building in Busan. It certainly is something to be proud of. All of the students’ needs have been met. For these reasons, I decided to introduce our school’s dormitory.

Student Rest Area  by Yang YeJin

There are small spaces for students on our campus. Among them, the most precious place for us is a rest area for students. It’s located on 2F to 6F of the D building and it gives us more convenience than we thought. First, this place is used to wait for classes. You don’t have to stand up and wait when you arrive at the classroom earlier than class. Secondly, it provides a place to study. During the exam, there are not enough places to study in the library, so there are many students who study in this area. Thirdly, this allows students to take comfort and rest. On the second floor, there are cushions for students to relax, so they rest here during recess by sleeping or listening to music.

Shuttle bus platform by Shin Yurim
BUFS offers the shuttle bus for students’ convenience. The shuttle bus runs in order of school, dormitory, Beomeosa Station, Namsan Station, and Namsan Fire Station. Also it runs according to the timetable. If you want to visit BUFS, you can use the platform in front of Exit 3 of Namsan Station or the platform behind the Beomeosa Station elevator.

After arriving at BUFS, the left side of the building is the Global Center. This building is one of the most crowded buildings on our campus.
There is a book store, food court, stationery store, copy store and ROTC. These exist for students’ convenience. We can eat lunch, buy some books and copy something that we need.
Food court, convenience store and others are located on B1 and these are not that far from the elevator, shuttle bus, dorm, and classrooms. Also there are many entrances. Because of that reason students can use these shops.
On the first floor, there is a cafe where everyone can relax and enjoy coffee or beverage. Its atmosphere is comfortable because the light of cafe looks like orange and there are so many comfy sofas. Also most students visit here when they don’t have classes. Furthermore there are other offices devoted to the development of schools and students on other floors.

Global center by Lee JaeKyung

A cafe is very huge and many student are always there , because it is nearby the shuttle bus stop and also in the basement, where there are many convenient places. For example print store, bank, bookstore and food court. In the print store we can copy our book or print what we need and in the bookstore we can buy our textbooks. Our university uses many textbooks from other countries, so they are difficult to find in other bookstores. For this reason global center's bookstore is very useful.
The most popular place of the global center is maybe the food court. In the food court, we can eat various kinds of food like Mom's Touch, Sinjeon tteokbokki and toast.

Library by Kim Subin

The library consists of five floors. There are many books in various languages and different kinds of books. Actually, you can search whether books are in the library or not on your mobile device. If the book that you are looking for is not in the library, you can apply for a waitlist. Also if you want to extend the loan period of a book, you can apply with your cell phone. On the ground floor, there is a media zone, study room, cinema and seminar room. The media zone has computers, DVD players and printers, so if you bring the paper, you can use the printer for free and use the computer and DVD player. DVD’s can also be borrowed from library. The library cinema shows movies every Tuesday and Thursday. The genre of movies is different every month. If the number of participants is high, they will also give away tickets in a lottery. On 2F to 4F , there are also study rooms and information search zone. There is a laptop zone on the fourth floor. Finally, on the fifth floor, there is a reading room where students can study quietly.
